Why Taking A Job Solely For the Money Doesn’t Actually Bring Abundance
Is it true that money flows when you're in alignment?
One of my favorite recruits ever (Shout out Alison Turner, former VP of Construction at SoulCycle) once told me “I've never taken a job for the money. If you love and are good at what you're doing, the money will come”
It was something I intrinsically knew but had never been articulated. Up until that point, I had always chosen a job based on the opportunity it granted me, and the money I was offered coming in usually changed (for the better) in a relatively short amount of time.
It feels counterintuitive to choose to value something other than money in order to receive money. And yet, this adage has been proven true many times in my life.
I would say it a little differently now: “if you're in alignment, money flows to you." My guest this week, Aimee Ogbonna, VP of Brand Experience at Little Words Project agrees, and adds another important perspective: “No amount of money is worth more than your mental heath.” Period.
So why is this so hard? It requires immense trust. Accepting a job without knowing exactly what you'll eventually make at it? This is risky business, and not in the “fun” (actually, weird) Tom Cruise way.
So why is this trust level next level? Well just a small reason…OUR LIVELIHOODS DEPEND ON MONEY. If we were still living in our villages of 100-150 people, we'd be doing our craft, trading or bartering for other things we need in return. We'd be THRIVING in our careers, not worried at all about pieces of paper or numbers on a screen. (Nevermind that those things didn't exist then and that the true threat was actually more like deadly disease or attacks, but you catch my drift!)
So, considering we have been able to live this way before, tapping into our alignment, our version of Village (Insert job here), is actually still possible. Enter Human design!
If you're interested in understanding how your Human Design intersects with your Career, namely the path that would put you in alignment, we can work on this together. Oftentimes all it takes is some subtle tweaks to yield big results.
