Why figuring out your strategy is critical

The last week or so I’ve had multiple conversations around strategy vs tactics. And knowing the difference makes all the difference. Once you know your strategy, you can apply it to anything. Something intuitive, like manifestation, or practical, like a job search. Or my preference, intuitively practical - manifesting a new job.

Strategy starts with a foundation. Establishing a mission statement and core values are how I prefer to start, then you can start pulling threads from each to look at strategy, finally, adding tactics to deploy the strategy.

 Manifesting a new job as an example, and you as an individual have core values of transparency, creativity and play. We’d start by editing your resume and LinkedIn using these core values*. We might add more detail, links to creative projects you’ve worked on and playful language. Then look at a list of companies who either, have these core values explicitly expressed, or seem to abide by them. For example, a company like JetBlue feels transparent, playful and creative in the way they brand and message.

Then a tactic - networking and/or applying to the jobs themselves. You might send inmails, find emails of hiring managers or directly apply. I’d also look at your human design to drill down on the “how” of this tactic.

Knowing the difference helps you stay rooted in what’s going to work best for you (strategy) while applying different tactics to see what works. I really like trying different tactics, A/B testing, and evaluating the results. I have a client who’s doing this with a hospitality strategy at the moment and she’s having fun with the process.

Why strategy?! Well having a clear plan of action magnetizes what you want to you. Instead of feeling lost, letting external whims pull you in different directions, you’ll have an anchor, knowing what’s for or perhaps more importantly, NOT for you.
